Stonks is a free stock ticker and watchlist for the Omarchy 4 bar. It follows stocks, ETFs, indexes, and crypto, in your theme's colours, with no account and no API key.

One glance at the bar.

The pill shows today's move for the stock you last looked at. Scroll over it to step through your list. Left-click for the popup, right-click for the window, middle-click to change its form, and drag it along the bar.

Here, scroll over the pill to step through the made-up stocks, and click it to change its form. In your bar, that's a middle-click. The animal is the bull on an up day and the bear on a down one.

What's in the cartridge.

  • Click the pill for the day's chart and scrub it with the pointer. Charts go from one day to all time.
  • Pre-market, after-hours, and overnight prices, and when the market opens or closes.
  • Stocks, ETFs, indexes, and crypto, from New York to London and Tokyo, each in its own currency.
  • A tiled window too: the popup's chart and rows at the window's width.
  • An old price says "As of" and its time. A refresh that fails puts a "!" on the pill.
  • No account and no API key.

Stonks doesn't track holdings, send price alerts, or convert currencies.

STAGE4YOUR LISTS

Lists of your own.

All holds every symbol you follow. Your own lists, such as a portfolio or a sector, hold some of them. Click the list's name to switch lists, start one, or manage them.

  • Ctrl-click a row to choose the lists it's in.
  • Removing a symbol from All removes it everywhere.
  • Removed one by mistake? The footer says what you removed. Click it to bring the row back.
  • Sort by symbol, name, or change, or keep your own order.

Retro draws the price in block digits and the charts in pixel columns, the way Omarchy draws its logo. Smooth draws them in lines. Both draw in your theme's colours, light themes too.

What Stonks runs, fetches, and writes.

PRICES
Quotes, charts, and search come from Yahoo's unofficial endpoints, and overnight prices from Robinhood. Either may change or stop without notice.
DELAYS
Yahoo delays many exchanges' quotes, London's and Tokyo's among them, by up to 30 minutes. Any price more than two minutes old while its market trades says "As of" and its time.
RUNS
curl for every request. omarchy restart shell, only when you click the notice that an update is on disk. omarchy plugin update grvc.stonks, in a terminal, only when you click the note that a newer Stonks is out.
SITES
query1.finance.yahoo.com for quotes, charts, and the market cap and P/E; query2.finance.yahoo.com for search; api.robinhood.com for overnight prices and which stocks trade overnight; and raw.githubusercontent.com for the newest version number, as the shell starts and then once a day. Nothing else.
FILES
Your lists and settings in ~/.config/omarchy/grvc.stonks.json, and the last quotes in ~/.cache/grvc.stonks/quotes.json.
UPDATES
Never by itself. When a newer version is out, the footer says so for 5 seconds.

What is Stonks?

Stonks is a free stock ticker and watchlist for the Omarchy 4 bar. A small pill shows how a stock is doing today, and a click opens its chart, with your lists under it.

How do I install a stock ticker on Omarchy?

Install Stonks with one command: omarchy plugin add https://github.com/gmchande/omarchy-stonks.git --enable. It needs Omarchy 4, which asks you to confirm, then where in the bar to put the pill.

Does Stonks need an account or an API key?

No. Stonks needs no account and no API key.

Where do Stonks' prices come from?

Stonks gets quotes, charts, and search from Yahoo Finance's unofficial endpoints, and overnight prices from Robinhood. Yahoo delays many exchanges' quotes by up to 30 minutes, London's and Tokyo's among them, and Stonks marks an old price with "As of" and its time.

Does Stonks show pre-market, after-hours, and overnight prices?

Yes. Stonks shows the pre-market, after-hours, or overnight price on a smaller line under the price. Overnight prices are for the US stocks and ETFs that Robinhood trades overnight.

Which markets does Stonks follow?

Stonks follows stocks, ETFs, indexes, and crypto, from New York to London and Tokyo, each in its own currency. It never converts currencies.

Does Stonks track my portfolio or send price alerts?

  1. Omarchy warns that plugins run unsandboxed and asks you to confirm.
  2. It asks where in the bar to put the pill. The centre is the default.
  3. Click the pill.

To read the code first, leave out --enable, say no when Omarchy offers to enable it, and run omarchy plugin enable grvc.stonks when you're ready.
